This one-day course will teach you the techniques to perform a highly effective seated massage over clothing, giving you an alternative treatment which is ideal for clients reluctant to undress or unable to lie down. It is one of the most effective methods of treatment when time is short and can be a very efficient way of increasing your turnover of clients. It is easily portable for treatments offered at offices, fetes, fairs, and conferences, and it is ideal for massage demonstrations.
No special equipment is needed! You will practice during the day using massage chairs and a table top unit although you will learn that special equipment is not always necessary and learn how you can work with your client in a regular chair. All techniques are ergonomically safe for the therapist and emphasis is put on your working posture, enabling you to work without tiring quickly or developing RSIs.
The sequence covers the back, neck, shoulders, arms and scalp. It takes 30 minutes but is easily altered to last from 10 to 45 minutes. It is a deeply relaxing treatment, and extremely effective in alleviating muscular tension. It combines elements of deep tissue massage, standard Swedish massage movements, some Indian Head Massage techniques as well as shiatsu movements and stretching.
You don’t need to bring any equipment or materials for the course as everything you need will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own massage chair or table top unit if you have one, but please let me know in advance. This workshop is predominately a practical session.
During the day you will:
- Practice seating a client comfortably and appropriately using a massage chair, a massage desktop unit, or a regular chair and table or massage table with pillows for support.
- Observe and practice massage techniques designed for use over clothing in a seated supported position.
- Feedback will be given about your techniques as well as using a safe, comfortable and sustainable working posture.
- Perform a 30 minute massage routine, and understand how to adapt for shorter and longer treatments and for specific client needs.
- Receive massage and share feedback with colleagues.
The handbook which you will receive as part of the class includes photographs and describes in detail all of the techniques which you will learn and practice on the day, giving you an ongoing reference for this method. You will receive a Certificate of Attendance at the end of the day.
